UAE-Backed Colombian Mercenaries Provided Support to Sudan Paramilitary, Report Says

The Conflict Insights Group investigation reveals that the UAE has directly supported Sudan's RSF paramilitary faction through Colombian mercenaries, providing training, logistics, and financial resources. The findings show the depth of Emirati military intervention in Sudan's ongoing civil war, which has killed over 150,000 people, mostly civilians.

Colombian military contractors supplied tactical training and strategic guidance to RSF forces engaged in mass atrocities and territorial conquest. Despite UN arms embargoes, the UAE has continued its support through arms transfers, financial payments, and personnel deployment. This pattern mirrors Emirati interventions in Somalia and Yemen, underscoring Abu Dhabi's broader strategy of using foreign mercenaries to advance regional interests.

The report adds to growing evidence of proxy warfare in the Sahel and Red Sea region, with external actors—including the UAE, Iran, Russia, and others—fueling regional conflicts for geopolitical gain. The UN Security Council has faced calls for stronger enforcement mechanisms to curtail mercenary operations and the foreign funding networks that enable them.
