Late Monday night, two trains collided on the outskirts of Jakarta, resulting in at least four deaths and dozens of injuries. The crash occurred on a major commuter line, and rescue workers spent the entire night pulling people from the wreckage. Initial reports suggest the long-distance train may not have reduced speed or misinterpreted signals before impact.

The commuter train was traveling at normal peak speed when the collision occurred, making the impact severe. The trains became completely entangled, with some passenger cars derailing from the tracks. PT KAI, Indonesia's national railway operator, issued an official statement apologizing for the incident and vowing to investigate.

Experts say Indonesia's rail infrastructure urgently requires modernization and better safety systems. The crash has drawn attention to transit safety concerns in the region. With frequent incidents like this, pressure is mounting on the government to invest in signal systems, track maintenance, and operator training standards across the network.
