Hardin's essay suggests the dynamic carries particular risk for physicians still in training, since clinical intuition develops through direct experience and learning from mistakes. Critics worry that when AI pre-answers every step, that learning process risks being interrupted.
From a health-system perspective, the primary motivation behind adopting AI tools is often efficiency and cost control — which, some critics argue, means administrative priorities can take precedence over preserving clinical autonomy.
Supporters counter that, deployed within the right framework, AI can free physicians from routine tasks and give them more time with patients. The outcome, in their view, depends heavily on implementation rather than the technology itself.
