NBA 2026 draft lottery seen as potentially game-changing for the league

According to ESPN, the NBA's 2026 draft lottery is being framed as one of the most consequential lotteries in years. As many as a third of the league's franchises are reported to have effectively tanked late in the season in pursuit of a higher pick.
The lottery is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN. Columnist Brian Windhorst argued that the draw is poised to introduce talent capable of reshaping competitive balance across the league for the next half-decade, not just the upcoming season.
The NBA had previously flattened lottery odds to reduce the incentive to lose. Even so, the depth of the 2026 class has prompted intense jockeying for the top pick, with team and agent sources cited by ESPN noting the high financial and basketball stakes attached to the outcome.
