Khadija Shaw named FWA Women's Player of the Year

Manchester City striker Khadija Shaw has won the Football Writers' Association Women's Player of the Season award. According to BBC Sport, the Jamaica international was instrumental in her club ending their wait for a Women's Super League crown, having last lifted the trophy in 2016.
City sealed the title after Arsenal could only draw 1-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion, the result handing the championship to Gareth Taylor's side. The BBC noted Shaw's persistent goal threat as a defining feature of City's campaign.
The FWA prize is among the most established individual honours in the women's game, voted on by member journalists. The recognition arrives in tandem with City's title, drawing a line under a season in which Shaw led the line with consistent productivity in front of goal.
