Nvidia, Microsoft and Arm tease new N1X laptop processor at Computex

At the Computex 2026 event in Taipei, Nvidia, Microsoft and Arm Holdings jointly teased the new N1X laptop processor. According to The Verge reporter Sean Hollister, the chip is the central product of Nvidia's strategy to integrate its AI accelerator technology into the standard laptop market.
N1X (no formal product name has yet been given) is based on Arm v9.2 architecture and incorporates Nvidia's Cosmos NPU (Neural Processing Unit) solution. The chip's design will use a 3nm manufacturing process; production is planned for Q4 2026 in partnership with TSMC. Nvidia's strategy is to shift a significant share of AI inference workloads from the cloud to the laptop (on-device AI).
Microsoft Windows on Arm team director Pavan Davuluri said at the event, 'The N1X could transform the Windows 12 ecosystem's AI capability base at the PC level. Microsoft is working to make the Copilot+ PC certification programme compatible with the new chip.' Davuluri said the N1X will have AI processing capacity of 40 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second) — approximately twice that of the current Intel Lunar Lake and AMD Ryzen AI 300 series.
Arm Holdings CEO Rene Haas said in a statement, 'This partnership between Nvidia and Arm is an important step on the path to ending x86 architecture's single-supplier era in the PC market. We forecast that within the next three years 30% of the Windows PC market could be Arm-based.' Haas said Microsoft will simultaneously support Snapdragon X2 Elite (Qualcomm), Nvidia N1X and potentially other Arm-based chips.
The Intel side did not stay silent. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, in a separate Computex statement, said, 'Intel's advances in x86 architecture — Lunar Lake, Arrow Lake and the upcoming Panther Lake — will sustain our leadership in the PC market. Arm competition is healthy, and customers will ultimately care about performance, price and application compatibility.' Intel's CCG (Client Computing Group) annual revenue is reported in the market at around $30 billion.
On the laptop OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) side, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, ASUS and Samsung are known to be developing N1X-based laptop models. Acer CEO Jason Chen said at a side event, 'We are planning our Acer Swift Edge Nvidia N1X model for 2026 Black Friday; the price range will be $1,299-$1,799.' This price range is close to current Intel and AMD-based Copilot+ PCs.
In terms of AI workload performance, according to Nvidia's official statement, the N1X could offer approximately 1.4 times the performance of Apple's M4 Max in generative AI inference. However, independent benchmarks have not yet been conducted. PC Magazine technical editor Brian Westover, in a comment piece for The Verge, said, 'Real performance data at the OEM level will be available in late summer 2026; Nvidia's claims await market verification.'
On the Apple side, Apple Silicon M5 and M6 processors are within the 2026-2027 product roadmap. Apple will maintain its approximately 17% PC market share, but Nvidia N1X coming to market could strengthen the AI performance perception on the Windows side in the Mac vs Windows debate. Apple's in-house Apple Intelligence (introduced in iOS 18) strategy shows a parallel direction in terms of keeping AI workloads on-device.
For the Chinese market, the N1X is an important test under the US export-control framework. The US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has applied restrictions on the export of advanced AI chips to China since 2022. Nvidia said it is in discussions with the BIS on the suitability of the N1X for the Chinese market. China's efforts to develop domestic Arm-based chips such as Loongson and Huawei Kunpeng in the internal market could affect market access for Nvidia's N1X.
For the Turkish PC market, N1X-based laptops are expected to arrive in Turkey in the first quarter of 2027. Turkish distributors Index, Penta Teknoloji and Karma Bilgisayar are in talks with OEMs. In the current period of a high dollar parity, around $1,500 laptop pricing is challenging for the Turkish consumer; but Microsoft Copilot+ PC certified AI features could create demand.
