Microsoft unveils Intel-powered Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8

According to The Verge, Microsoft's newest generation of Surface products, the Surface Pro 12 and the Surface Laptop 8, has been launched with Intel's Lunar Lake processors. The two new devices show that Microsoft is keeping Intel x86 in the line, alongside its ARM-based Qualcomm Snapdragon X models.
The Surface Pro 12 has a 13-inch PixelSense OLED display. The change from the previous generation is that the panel now supports 120 Hz refresh and 800 nits of peak brightness. Tablet weight is given as 879 grams, with the Type Cover keyboard (sold separately) at 282 grams.
The Surface Laptop 8 features a 14-inch display; the main design changes are slimmer bezels and an improved keyboard feel. The Verge's review notes that the Laptop 8 advertises 8.9 hours of battery life, around an hour better than the previous generation.
Both devices have moved to Intel's Lunar Lake architecture. Lunar Lake is Intel's power-efficient design first shipped at the end of 2025, positioned to compete with Apple's ARM-based M3. The Verge's tests put the Lunar Lake Surface Pro 12 about 32 per cent faster on multi-thread workloads than the previous Surface Pro 11.
On pricing, the Surface Pro 12 starts at 1,299 dollars and the Surface Laptop 8 at 1,199 dollars. That is around 100 dollars more than the equivalent ARM-based configurations. Both products are on sale now in the US; they will become available in Europe and other markets, including Turkey, from mid-June.
Another detail noted by The Verge's review is that Microsoft has applied the "Copilot+ PC" certification to both Intel models. The certification indicates that the devices can run the most advanced AI features in Windows 11 — such as Recall — directly on local hardware.
On cameras and connectivity, the Surface Pro 12's front camera has been upgraded from 1080p Full HD to 4K Ultra HD. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 are standard on both models. The Surface Pro 12 raises the count of USB-C 4.0 ports from 2 to 3; on the Surface Laptop 8 the count moves to 4.
For the enterprise market, Microsoft also announced "Surface for Business" editions of both devices at the same time. The business editions include corporate Windows management tools, a longer (three-year) warranty and extended memory configurations. Pricing is 150 dollars above the consumer line.
In The Verge's editorial assessment, Microsoft's dual strategy across Intel and Qualcomm gives customers broader choice but is a complex position to sustain. On software compatibility, the x86 Intel side is uncontroversial; on the ARM side, Microsoft's emulation layer has made significant progress over the past year.
Microsoft's Surface line currently accounts for about 4 per cent of the global PC market. The company has raised its annual revenue target in the category to 6 billion dollars for 2026. Sources spoken to by The Verge indicate that the Lunar Lake models are expected to deliver more than half of Surface revenue growth this year.
