The Stuttgart-based group said it would shut down its Austrian e-bike unit, Porsche eBike Performance, and parts of its German cell-investment vehicle Cellforce. The 'special projects' division of its software arm, Porsche Engineering, will also be reduced.

Chief executive Oliver Blume said in a statement: 'We need to return to the sporty, race-inspired models that built Porsche.' The company has been hit by a 28% drop in Chinese sales in 2025 and a 19% decline in net profit in the first quarter of 2026.

Most layoffs will be handled through voluntary separation packages, with options to move to other brands inside the Volkswagen Group. Porsche stressed that headcount on its main production lines is unchanged.
