Trump Delays Order to Suspend Beef Import Tariffs
The White House has delayed an executive order that would suspend US beef import tariffs aimed at cooling supermarket meat prices. Republican lawmakers from cattle-producing states warned the move would hit domestic ranchers and pushed Trump to reconsider the timing.

President Donald Trump has paused signing an executive order that would temporarily suspend US tariffs on imported beef, the Wall Street Journal reported. The delay followed a lobbying push from Republican lawmakers in cattle-producing states who pressed the White House to reconsider.
The order had been drafted to ease price pressure on ground beef and steaks, both of which have climbed sharply in recent months and become a visible household-budget complaint. Administration officials had argued that wider imports from Brazil and Australia could pull supermarket prices lower within weeks.
Senators from Nebraska, Texas and Oklahoma countered that US ranchers are already squeezed by feed costs and interest rates, and that fresh foreign supply could trigger liquidations across mid-sized operations. The White House said the measure remains under review but is on hold for now.
