Turkish ports hit all-time cargo record, surpassing 580 million tonnes handled
The volume of cargo handled at Turkey's ports passed 580 million tonnes in the last 12 months, an all-time record. Transport ministry data show container traffic rose 9.2% year on year. Ambarlı and Mersin led on the export side, the data showed.

Data from Turkey's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure show that cargo handled across all the country's port facilities over the last year reached 580.4 million tonnes. The figure is 7.1% above the prior period and the highest on record.
Total container moves rose to 14.3 million TEU. The Port of Ambarlı led on exports with 4.1 million TEU. The Port of Mersin came second with 3.2 million TEU annually. Loading volumes at oil and LNG terminals also posted double-digit gains over the year.
According to ministry data, Turkey's export value totalled 23.8 billion dollars in April. The Asia-Europe trade corridor and the Black Sea route are among the most active. Annual revenue from port privatisations has now reached 1.4 billion dollars.
