Sea drone explodes in Romanian port of Constanta, fanning fears of Ukraine war spillover
An explosion from an apparent sea drone in the Romanian Black Sea port of Constanta has set off fresh alarm across NATO. Bucharest reported no casualties and said shipping remains safe, while NATO and EU officials weigh investigation steps and reinforcement of air and coastal defence.

According to France 24, the explosion of an apparent sea drone close to Romania's Black Sea port of Constanta has revived concerns that the war in Ukraine could spill onto the territory of NATO member Romania. The Romanian defence ministry said there were no casualties and that port traffic continued under controlled conditions.
NATO officials said the alliance could move to Article 4 consultations in the coming days and noted that the coastal radar network was already operating at heightened alert. Brussels emphasised Constanta's role as the main outlet for Ukrainian exports and discussed accelerating air-defence deliveries to Romania.
Ukraine suggested the sea drone's trajectory may have been altered after Russian attacks; Moscow has not commented publicly. In the weeks ahead, an Article 4 meeting, bilateral talks between Bucharest and Berlin and The Hague on air defence, and the reconfiguration of Constanta traffic will be the main milestones to watch.
