The legislation would give President Donald Trump the authority to impose tariffs of up to 500% on imports from Russia, including gas and oil. That power could also pressure third countries that continue trading with Moscow.
The sanctions are expected to make it harder for Russia to finance its war effort, though analysts warn the measures could add volatility to global energy markets. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for consideration.
