China Unveils Hanyuan-2, the World's First Dual-Core Quantum Computer
The Chinese Academy of Sciences has unveiled Hanyuan-2, presented as the world's first dual-core quantum computer. The new architecture promises a marked leap in computing speed and reignites the technology race with the United States.

At the heart of Hanyuan-2 is a dual-core design that lets the system process couplings between qubits in parallel. The developer team said the architecture delivers a tenfold speed gain over previous single-core designs on selected cryptography benchmarks.
China's announcement is being read as a flagship demonstration of accelerated investment in domestic semiconductors and superconductors, in response to US export controls. Beijing officials described Hanyuan-2 as a 'strategic national infrastructure'.
Shares in chip-related Chinese firms such as SMIC and Cambricon rose sharply in Hong Kong following the news. US-based rivals IBM and Google said they would await independent benchmarking before judging the system's real-world performance.
