The meeting marks the first confirmed outside contact for Suu Kyi since the military seized power in a 2021 coup. Since then, no one, including her family and lawyers, had been permitted to see her.
Rights groups said the meeting was welcome but noted there is still a lack of transparency about Suu Kyi's health and the conditions of her detention. As Myanmar's anti-coup resistance movement continues, the international community has renewed calls for her release.
