China widens duty-free access for African exports — who really benefits?

Analysts cited in the programme see potential gains in agricultural goods, light manufacturing and textile segments. The export basket, however, remains heavily skewed towards minerals and energy products, leaving trade structurally uneven. Port infrastructure limits and certification processes were highlighted as bottlenecks.
China-Africa trade has expanded rapidly over recent years, with Beijing channelling investment into transport corridors. Local governments are broadening tax incentives to attract manufacturing capital. In the period ahead, sector associations will watch the global commodity cycle and Chinese consumer demand closely.
