Thailand hunts attackers after 5 soldiers killed in deep south checkpoint assault

According to the regional Internal Security Operations Command, roughly ten assailants opened fire and threw pipe bombs at soldiers stationed near a residential area before fleeing the scene. Several of the injured civilians were reported to be in serious condition, and a manhunt is underway across the province.
The attack struck Thailand's deep south, a region near the Malaysian border that has experienced recurring violence tied to a long-running separatist insurgency for more than two decades. Authorities have not yet named the group responsible, and security forces have increased patrols in the area following the assault.
