Macron hosts Meloni for Riviera summit after Italian leader's fallout with Trump
French President Emmanuel Macron is hosting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for a bilateral summit on the French Riviera. The talks aim to deepen a nascent rapprochement between Paris and Rome, days after Meloni's relations with US President Donald Trump soured publicly.

French President Emmanuel Macron is meeting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the French Riviera, with both leaders seeking to build on a recent rapprochement and deepen cooperation on shared priorities.
The meeting comes just days after a public rift between Meloni and US President Donald Trump, once seen as a close ally. According to France 24, Trump mocked Meloni at a recent G7 summit, claiming she had been "begging" him for a photograph.
Relations between Europe's major economies have at times been strained over defence, migration and EU policy, but the two leaders are looking for common ground. The summit is expected to strengthen diplomatic ties between Paris and Rome and signal a degree of European coordination at a moment of shifting transatlantic relations.
