Uganda's President Museveni sworn in for record seventh term

Yoweri Museveni was sworn in as Uganda's president for a seventh term after his victory in last month's election. The ceremony was held at Kololo grounds in Kampala. Opposition leader Bobi Wine said he continues to dispute the result.

Some 30 foreign heads of state and government attended the ceremony, including Kenya's William Ruto and Tanzania's Samia Suluhu Hassan. Museveni, in power since 1986, will be 87 by the end of his new term in office.

Official results show Museveni won approximately 58% of the vote in last month's election, with popular opposition figure Bobi Wine on around 35%. Wine and his team have announced they have lodged a challenge with the Constitutional Court alleging irregularities in the vote count.

In his post-oath address, Museveni stressed infrastructure investment, youth employment, and regional security as priorities. His statement said programme talks with the IMF will continue and energy investment will be accelerated. Leaders of Muslim and Christian communities from neighbouring countries were also invited guests at the ceremony.
