Officials say monitoring boat passengers is critical to stopping the outbreak from spreading further along the country's river routes. River transport remains one of the main ways communities in remote areas of the DRC are connected to one another.
The case is part of a monthslong Ebola outbreak in the DRC that has now reached thousands of confirmed cases. Health workers say early detection and isolation remain vital to preventing the epidemic from accelerating further.
