Turkey's Installed Power Capacity Tops 125,000 Megawatts

Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Turkey's total installed power capacity has topped 125,000 megawatts, with renewables accounting for more than half. He added that another 6,000 megawatts of wind and solar capacity is targeted by the end of 2026.

Speaking to TRT Haber, Bayraktar said Turkey has lifted installed power capacity from 95,000 megawatts to above 125,000 over the past five years, with most of the new build in wind and solar. The renewable share now stands at 58% of total capacity.

The minister said record demand is expected this summer, with peak consumption potentially topping 65,000 megawatts as air-conditioning load surges, adding that investment in transmission lines and back-up capacity has secured supply. Gas-fired plants are being kept on standby against Iran-war price volatility.

Bayraktar said another 4,000 megawatts of solar and 2,000 megawatts of wind capacity will come online by year-end. The ministry also said large-scale battery storage tenders will open in September.
