Jet fuel price spikes are severely impacting European and global aviation. The Iran war has disrupted oil supply through the Strait of Hormuz, tightening jet fuel availability to Europe and Asia. Some carriers have been forced to reduce capacity or alter routes. Rising fuel costs are eroding profit margins, with low-cost carriers and regional airlines most vulnerable. Industry experts warn more cancellations or price increases are likely in the near term. European airports will also be affected as some airlines announce summer capacity cuts in advance. Fuel prices currently sit 40-50% above normal levels.
