Argentina's government says US-based Meitner Energy plans to invest $1.2 billion to build a private nuclear reactor in the country. The Argentine-designed ACR-300 small modular reactor would be the first of its kind there. The project aims to expand the country's power-generation capacity.

Argentina's government has announced that US-based Meitner Energy plans to invest $1.2 billion to build a private nuclear reactor in the country. According to the Buenos Aires Herald, the project is based on the Argentine-designed ACR-300 small modular reactor.
Small modular reactors promise lower upfront costs and shorter build times than conventional plants. Having such a facility financed by the private sector would be a first for the country.
The government says the project would help diversify energy supply and lift electricity-generation capacity. Regulatory approvals and technical assessments are expected to be completed before the investment moves ahead.
