According to a study by the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), Airbnb activity generated about R$34 billion, or $6.7 billion, in economic movement through São Paulo state in 2025. The study, cited by the Rio Times, describes it as the largest economic footprint of any Brazilian state.
That sum is equivalent to roughly 30% of the R$113 billion ($22.3 billion) the platform moved nationwide. According to the study, the activity supported more than 208,000 jobs in the state.
The figures point to the growing role of short-term rental platforms in Brazil's tourism and services economy. They also provide context for ongoing debates over housing and tourism regulation.
