Saudi intelligence chief meets Iraqi PM, renews Riyadh visit invitation

Saudi Arabia's intelligence chief met with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in Baghdad and renewed an invitation for him to visit Riyadh, in a move seen as an effort to revive strained diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Al-Zaidi had cancelled an earlier planned trip to Saudi Arabia after deadly US-Saudi strikes hit Iraqi territory on July 29. The strikes had strained relations between Baghdad and Riyadh in the weeks that followed.
The Saudi intelligence chief's visit is being interpreted as a step toward easing regional tensions. Analysts say normalizing relations between the two countries carries broader significance for stability across the region.
