Trump prepares to fire FDA chief Makary, sources say
The Trump administration is preparing to dismiss FDA Commissioner Marty Makary after months of disputes over drug approvals, sources told Reuters. A search for his replacement is already under way. Pharmaceutical companies face fresh uncertainty over US approval timelines.

Two sources told Reuters that the White House has decided to part ways with FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, with the dispute centred on how far accelerated-approval pathways should be loosened. Health and Human Services officials declined to comment on the record.
Makary was confirmed last year by a narrow Senate margin and had taken a comparatively flexible stance on rare-disease therapies. Trump's inner circle believes the agency has not aligned quickly enough with White House priorities, and several conservative physicians are reportedly being considered as replacements.
If the dismissal proceeds, the US pharmaceutical sector will face its second senior regulatory shake-up of the year. Investors in Pfizer, Merck and Eli Lilly are tracking whether pending approvals slip. According to Reuters analysis, filings worth roughly 12 billion dollars in potential annual revenue sit in the queue.
