Russian attack sets Ukraine's Izmail port infrastructure ablaze

Russia struck the area around Izmail, Ukraine's largest port on the Danube River, overnight, regional authorities confirmed, with the attack damaging port infrastructure and setting off a fire. Ukraine has increasingly relied on its Danube ports as a critical route for grain exports.

Moscow said separately that it downed 362 Ukrainian drones overnight. In a distinct development, an attack reported in Russia's Salavat area triggered a fire at an oil refinery, according to local officials there.

Both sides accuse each other of targeting civilian and industrial infrastructure in the exchange. Analysts note that strikes on the Danube ports directly affect the alternative grain export corridor that has grown in importance while Ukraine's Black Sea route remains contested.
