Millions of Palestinians mark 78 years since the Nakba
Palestinians marked the anniversary of the 1948 mass displacement with commemorative events in the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon and diaspora communities in Europe. The United Nations said the anniversary takes on particular weight against the backdrop of war.

Al Jazeera published an extensive photo gallery and on-the-ground reporting from commemorations around the world. Marches were held with flags in the West Bank city of Ramallah, in Amman and in refugee camps in Lebanon.
The Palestinian Authority called for preserving the memory of lost land and displaced families. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said the situation of the 750,000 Palestinians displaced in 1948 has become one of the world's longest-running refugee crises.
Despite the ongoing war in Gaza, symbolic events and prayers were also held there. In Europe, thousands took part in marches organised by Palestinian communities in Berlin, Paris, London and Madrid.
