Anthropic and Microsoft in talks for AI chip deal after $5 billion investment
The two companies are discussing using Microsoft's Maia AI accelerators to run Anthropic's models. The talks would deepen the partnership formalised by Microsoft's recent $5 billion investment.

According to CNBC, Anthropic is weighing a large order of Microsoft's in-house Maia 200 AI chips to train and run its Claude models. The talks have not been finalised yet.
Microsoft's $5 billion investment in early May lifted Anthropic's valuation sharply and broadened the technical cooperation framework between the two firms. To date Anthropic has relied mainly on Amazon Web Services and its Trainium and Inferentia chips for its model workloads.
Analysts say a deal would create a credible alternative to Nvidia's dominance in AI accelerators. Microsoft shares showed a muted reaction, while Nvidia closed down about 1.2 percent on the session. The arrangement would also signal Microsoft's willingness to share Maia capacity with partners beyond its own consumer-facing AI services.
