Russian army executed hundreds of Ukrainian POWs since 2022, Kyiv says
Ukraine says the Russian army has executed hundreds of Ukrainian prisoners of war since 2022. A UN report published last month cited 129 verified executions, with the organization having flagged a “marked increase” in cases last year.

Ukraine's government has alleged that the Russian army has executed hundreds of Ukrainian prisoners of war since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022. Kyiv said it has passed these allegations on to international bodies.
A United Nations report published last month documented 129 verified cases of execution. The UN had previously warned, last year, that it observed a “marked increase” in such cases.
Ukrainian officials said accounts have been gathered describing executions occurring near the front line and at the moment of capture. Russia has not issued an official response to the allegations.
Human rights organizations stress that executing prisoners of war constitutes a war crime under international law. The UN report called for expanded independent investigations into the cases.
Kyiv said it continues to gather documentation so the allegations can be used as evidence before international courts. Western governments said they are following the matter closely.
