India successfully tests Agni missile equipped with MIRV warheads
India's defence ministry said it has successfully tested the medium-range Agni-Prime missile fitted with multiple independently targetable warheads, marking a significant escalation in the regional arms race with China and Pakistan.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation said Friday's launch from Abdul Kalam Island in the Bay of Bengal sent the missile to a range of about 4,000 kilometres, with three warheads striking independent targets.
Prime Minister Modi posted on X that the test was 'a historic achievement reflecting the resolve of India's strategic capability.' China's foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said 'steps that undermine regional stability must be avoided.' Pakistan announced northern air-force exercises.
India's Sensex extended its record run to a sixteenth straight session, closing at 89,450. Defence stocks Bharat Dynamics and Hindustan Aeronautics rose 4.2% and 3.7% respectively. The rupee held flat at 83.15 to the dollar.
