China unveils high-power microwave weapons reaching 100 gigawatts
Chinese defence scientists say the country's high-power microwave weapons can deliver an output of up to 100 gigawatts, a milestone they describe as capable of transforming future warfare. The findings were detailed in a paper by researchers at the National University of Defence Technology.

Researchers at China's National University of Defence Technology (NUDT) detailed a series of advanced pulsed-power devices built by the country's military in recent years, in a paper published this month in the journal High Power Laser and Particle Beams. According to the paper, these systems can deliver an output of up to 100 gigawatts.
The researchers described the milestone as one that could transform the future of warfare while also stimulating advancements in civilian research and industry. High-power microwave weapons, which are designed to disable electronic systems, have long been an area of interest for defence establishments worldwide.
The disclosure comes amid an ongoing regional race in military technology development. Analysts say such capability announcements will continue to be closely watched, both for their deterrence value and their potential spillover into civilian technology.
