Iran Accuses Ukraine of Deadly Attack on Caspian Sea Vessel

Iran's government said Friday that a commercial vessel came under attack in the Caspian Sea, resulting in the death of one sailor and injuries to a second crew member. Tehran attributed the attack to Ukraine, describing it as a deliberate and criminal act carried out against a civilian ship.
Iranian officials did not immediately disclose details about the vessel's cargo, flag, ownership, or the precise location where the attack took place. Authorities said a formal investigation had been opened and vowed to identify and hold accountable whoever was responsible for the strike on the ship.
Ukraine had not issued a public response to Iran's allegation at the time of reporting. The Caspian Sea, bordered by Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, has occasionally been the site of tension over shipping routes and security incidents, though direct attacks on commercial vessels of this kind remain rare in the region.
