Nvidia tops $40 billion in AI equity bets, becoming sector's biggest backer
Nvidia has poured more than $40 billion into equity stakes across AI startups and hyperscalers this year, formalising its role as the sector's most active strategic investor.

Nvidia's direct equity investments in AI and data-centre firms have crossed $40 billion since January, according to data compiled by CNBC. The portfolio now spans CoreWeave, Mistral, xAI, Wayve and Lambda, among others.
Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress told an investor briefing that 'capital investments accelerate the growth of the ecosystem around our chips.' Wall Street analysts caution the strategy effectively ties customers to Nvidia silicon, and the SEC has begun probing related-party transactions more closely.
Shares climbed 1.1% to $1,385, lifting the company's market capitalisation toward $4.2 trillion. Nvidia stock is up roughly 38% year-to-date, again outperforming the broader S&P 500.
