Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held an 85-minute phone call on Saturday, Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters in an audio message. Ushakov said the conversation covered a settlement in Ukraine and developments in the Middle East.
According to Ushakov, the leaders discussed the Ukrainian issue in light of Trump's upcoming participation in the NATO summit in Turkey on July 7-8. Iran was also raised during the call. Putin congratulated Trump on the 250th anniversary of US independence, which the United States marked over the weekend.
The high-level contact is being closely watched as both the war in Ukraine and tensions involving Iran continue to weigh on global energy and food prices. Neither side said whether the call produced any concrete outcome or agreement.
