Tatarstan, Russia, hit by Ukrainian strike killing 12, as Russian attacks kill five in Kharkiv

A Ukrainian strike on the Tatarstan region of central Russia killed 12 people and wounded 39 others, Euronews reported, in what is being described as one of the deadliest single attacks Kyiv has carried out since the war began. Tatarstan lies hundreds of kilometres from the front line, and the strike underscores Ukraine's growing ability to hit targets deep inside Russian territory.

Near the front line in Ukraine's Kharkiv region, Russian strikes killed five people, according to the same report. The attacks come as fighting continues along multiple sections of the roughly 1,000-kilometre front, with both militaries carrying out regular long-range strikes against targets far from the immediate combat zone.

Neither Kyiv nor Moscow has offered an official death toll beyond the figures reported by Euronews. The exchange of strikes illustrates the continued volatility of the war more than two years after Russia's full-scale invasion, with civilian and military infrastructure on both sides remaining vulnerable to attack.
