Palestinians Mark 78 Years Since Nakba Amid Ongoing Displacement
Palestinians marked the 78th anniversary of the 1948 Nakba with ceremonies in Khan Younis and other cities. According to United Nations reports, the conflict in Gaza and movements in the West Bank show the displacement crisis is continuing.

Hundreds attended the commemoration in Khan Younis, where families who lived through displacement shared their testimonies. According to Al Jazeera, Palestinian Authority representatives and community organisations recalled the historical events of 1948, when more than 700,000 Palestinians were forced to leave their homes.
A recent report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs found that the conflict in Gaza has displaced around 1.9 million people since 2024, while growing settlement activity in the West Bank has also pushed parts of the population to relocate. The report said more than half of those displaced face serious difficulties accessing shelter and food.
The European Union and several Gulf states said in their statements that protecting a durable ceasefire and humanitarian corridors remained essential. The Palestinian Authority announced it would present the outlines of a reconstruction plan at an international meeting in Geneva later in May.
