The agenda includes a plan to cut tariffs on around $30 billion of imports, possible new permits for Nvidia to ship advanced artificial intelligence chips to China, tensions over Taiwan and the war involving Iran. The White House said it expected concrete steps from the meetings, while the Chinese Foreign Ministry reiterated that Taiwan was a red line for Beijing. The US delegation notably included major tech executives such as Elon Musk and Jensen Huang.
Global markets are tracking the talks closely. Asian equities opened the morning session moderately higher, with chip stocks supported by reports about Nvidia H200 sales. It is unclear whether the leaders will issue a joint statement; the Chinese side hinted that a press statement could be issued later in the week.
