US jet fuel could be used in Europe to ease possible shortages

US refiners may help Europe avoid jet-fuel shortages this summer as the Iran war squeezes Middle Eastern supplies, according to European airline executives. The International Air Transport Association warned that European jet-fuel inventories are at their lowest level since the pandemic, and the closure of several Persian Gulf refining loadings could create gaps as summer travel peaks.
Airlines including Lufthansa, Air France-KLM and IAG are in talks with US refiners about emergency shipments, BBC Business reported. Diverting Gulf Coast cargoes to Rotterdam and Hamburg would add days to delivery times and lift prices, but officials said it remains cheaper than grounding flights. The European Commission is also weighing a temporary easing of biofuel-blending rules to widen the available supply pool.
Jet fuel prices in Europe have climbed about 35% since the Iran conflict began, according to Argus benchmarks. Industry groups are urging Brussels to release strategic reserves if shipments do not arrive in time. Brent crude held above $90 a barrel on Monday after Trump rejected Iran's latest peace proposal.
