Typhoon Dolphin made landfall along China's densely populated eastern coast on Sunday, prompting meteorological authorities to issue the country's top-level storm alert. The system had already forced the cancellation of more than 1,000 flights as airports across the region suspended operations ahead of its arrival. State media described it as one of the most powerful storms to strike the coast this season.
Local authorities ordered evacuations in low-lying and coastal communities as the storm brought heavy rain and strong winds inland. Rail and ferry services were also disrupted, with officials warning of flooding and landslides in mountainous areas as the typhoon tracks further inland.
Emergency crews have been placed on standby in the affected provinces, and residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors where possible. Authorities said they would continue monitoring the storm's path and issue further guidance to the public as conditions develop over the coming days.
