Philippine VP Sara Duterte Impeached for a Second Time
The Philippine House of Representatives has impeached Vice President Sara Duterte for the second time. If convicted in a Senate trial, she could be barred from running for president.

The Philippine House of Representatives has impeached Vice President Sara Duterte for a second time, sending the case to the Senate for trial. The charges include alleged abuse of authority, misuse of confidential funds, and threatening remarks toward the president. Duterte denies all of the accusations.
An initial impeachment attempt last year was struck down by the Supreme Court on procedural grounds. According to the BBC, the new effort was initiated under a different procedure followed by the House. If convicted, Duterte could be barred from running in the 2028 presidential election.
The court ruling and the political process have come to dominate the national agenda. Tensions between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Duterte family have deepened the rift inside the ruling coalition. A date for a Senate vote has not been set, but legislative sources said proceedings could begin in the coming weeks.
