Mohamed Salah to captain Egypt as squad announced for FIFA World Cup 2026
The Egyptian Football Federation has announced a 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026, with Mohamed Salah named captain. The squad features players ranging in age from 18 to 36; Egypt is making its second appearance at the tournament in 32 years.

At a press conference, the head of the Egyptian Football Federation announced the 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and confirmed that Mohamed Salah will continue as team captain. The squad includes players from 14 European clubs and features four young players who stood out in the past season of the Egyptian Premier League across midfield and forward roles.
Egypt will hold a one-week camp in Casablanca before travelling to North America. In the opening fixture of Group C, Egypt will face Scotland. The squad's average age is 27.3, lower than each of the past three World Cup squads.
In a written statement, captain Mohamed Salah said the team's objective is to advance past the group stage. Sponsorship deals and broadcast-rights revenue will be critical for the federation's financial planning. The federation confirmed that the squad will continue to be led by head coach Hany Ramzy.
