The White House said U.S. President Donald Trump will hold separate meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the NATO summit. The talks come with the war in Ukraine and Syria's political transition high on the agenda.

According to the White House, Trump will meet the two leaders separately during the NATO summit on Wednesday. The meeting with Zelenskyy is expected to address the course of the conflict in Ukraine and possible options for a ceasefire.
On the same day, Trump will also meet Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, who took power in December. It will be one of the first contacts at this level between the two leaders and is set to focus on Syria's political transition.
The meetings coincide with a summit at which alliance leaders are due to discuss defence spending and regional security. The White House gave no further detail on the agenda.
