The start-up is led by industry veteran Wei Shaojun, who is also vice-president of the China Semiconductor Industry Association. According to the SCMP, the company is betting on 3D stacking, joining giants such as Huawei.
That approach aims to work around US export controls on advanced chip technology. The start-up's performance and manufacturing capacity will be watched closely as an indicator of China's position in the AI chip race.
