Mexico reveals operational alliance between Jalisco New Generation Cartel and Los Chapitos
Mexico's Security Ministry revealed that the country's two largest criminal organisations — the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel — have formed an operational alliance to coordinate fentanyl shipments and divide territory, in what experts call the most significant power realignment in a decade.

Mexican Security Minister Omar García Harfuch announced at a Monday press conference that the country's two largest criminal organisations have formed an operational alliance. The CJNG and the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel have agreed to share the fentanyl supply chain and the territories along the US border.
The ministry's statement cited intercepted encrypted communications and testimony from senior couriers captured over the past six months. García Harfuch said « this is the most significant power realignment we have seen in a decade. » US officials confirmed the State Department has been briefed and that operational cooperation will continue.
US Drug Policy Director Rahul Gupta described the announcement as « deeply concerning. » The White House said additional measures targeting the fentanyl crisis would be announced in coming weeks. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said the alliance will be met with the deployment of 3,000 additional federal troops to northern states.
