A bipartisan group of lawmakers in the US Congress has introduced war powers resolutions aimed at halting the Trump administration's ongoing military campaign against Iran. The push gained momentum after Iran reported 55 deaths from strikes since June 27.
Senior officials say any resolution that clears Congress would almost certainly be vetoed by Trump, whose administration argues sustained military pressure is necessary to bring Tehran back to the negotiating table.
The votes come just after a US base in Kuwait was targeted by Iranian drones and missiles, and as oil prices surged past $100 a barrel. Lawmakers say both the financial cost and the risk of wider regional escalation are climbing.
