According to Bulgarian authorities, the drone entered the country's airspace from Romania before detonating roughly 1,000 metres from the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, a key regional energy artery. No casualties were reported, but the incident briefly disrupted operations in the surrounding area.
Ukraine denied deliberately targeting Bulgarian territory and pledged to open an inquiry into the incident. The episode adds to a string of recent close calls involving drone debris and stray munitions along NATO's eastern flank, raising fresh concern among member states about the war's spillover risk.
