Brat emphasised that securing critical mineral supply chains carries strategic importance for both the United States and Australia. Cooperation in this area is widely seen as a counterweight to China's dominant position in the global minerals market.
The new ambassador also said deepening the defence partnership between the two countries would be a priority. Analysts say the appointment signals the weight Washington continues to place on its allies amid growing geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific region.
