A US federal appeals court in Washington has upheld a ruling ordering Argentina to pay approximately $390 million to the Titan Consortium hedge fund, closing off one of the country's last legal challenges over the 2008 expropriation of flag carrier Aerolíneas Argentinas.
The case dates back to Argentina's nationalization of the airline nearly two decades ago, when the government took control from Spanish parent group Marsans. Titan Consortium, which holds claims tied to the airline's former shareholders, has pursued the judgment through US courts for years.
The ruling adds to a string of adverse decisions Argentina has faced over the nationalization, and comes as the government continues broader efforts to resolve outstanding sovereign debt and litigation disputes ahead of upcoming fiscal negotiations in Buenos Aires.
