Higher Europe air fares 'inevitable' as Iran war keeps oil prices elevated, industry chief warns
A leading representative of Europe's airline industry said higher fares are inevitable as oil prices remain elevated following the US-Israel-Iran conflict. The sector expects rising jet fuel costs to feed through to ticket prices in the near term.

A senior figure in Europe's airline industry told the BBC that fare increases on European routes are inevitable as global oil prices remain elevated after the US-Israel-Iran war. The official noted that jet fuel makes up a substantial share of carriers' overall cost base.
IATA and major European carriers said they have tried to limit fare hikes ahead of the summer season but warned that persistent fuel price levels will eventually feed into ticket structures. Travel operators including TUI have already reported slowing demand.
The industry representative stressed that intra-European routes cannot be subsidised indefinitely, particularly by low-cost carriers, as margins have already compressed. The impact on consumers will become visible in autumn pricing schedules.
