Indian activist Sonam Wangchuk ended a 26-day hunger strike on Friday over leaked medical school entrance exam papers, but youth-led protests demanding the education minister's resignation are continuing in the biggest challenge yet to Narendra Modi's government.
Indian activist Sonam Wangchuk ended a 26-day hunger strike on Friday over leaked medical school entrance exam papers. Wangchuk said he wanted to end the strike to help avert possible violence.
Protests led by the self-named Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) youth movement are continuing regardless. Demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who they hold responsible for leaks that reportedly affected some two million students.
The movement is being described as the biggest youth-led challenge yet to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. The government has not yet issued a comprehensive response to the protesters' demands.
